Chapter 23

Vivian

Vivian felt restless, aroused, and uncomfortable.

She’d been fine when she woke up and feasted that morning with Destiny and the twins, chatting amiably. Vivian long-range voice-commed her family, updating them on her latest mission and her MateDance. She glossed over the sexual aspects and focused on how happy her males made her and how much she enjoyed getting to know them. Her sisters and brothers teased her some, but all were boisterously celebrating with her. Vivian had grinned for an hour after her comm with them.

After, she’d done a little work and took a nap when Destiny, Raiida, and Rahimi went to the common room. Her dreams had been vivid and erotic. Vivian awakened on what she could only call a phantom orgasm, aching and alone. Needing her Mates.

Touching herself was completely unappealing. She went to the Mistaray, but it didn’t help. She couldn’t tolerate clothes. Vivian paced her room, glad she was alone. The thought of company irritated her, and she didn’t know what to do.

A small chime requesting entry alerted Vivian, so she quickly wrapped herself in a blanket. The entryway opened for High Nessa Katohna, who walked in quietly with a long length of delicate pink fabric over her arm. Without speaking, High Nessa Katohna lifted the fabric which was a lovely, sheer wrap.

Vivian turned and put her arms through the sleeves, wrapping the robe around her body, and tying it closed, dropping the blanket on the floor. It was light as a feather. Yet still barely tolerable to her ultra-sensitive skin.

Vivian turned and looked at her PrideLeader and friend.

“Katohna, something is wrong.”

Vivian looked down at her wringing hands, thinking maybe she should go see Talia for a tranquilizer.

Katohna’s fingers were gentle as they nudged Vivian’s face up to look at her. Her tone was low and soothing, her words slow and easy.

“My dearest Vivian, there is not one thing wrong. Everything is as it should be.”

Vivian’s brow dropped, her lips pursing with disbelief.

“If this is how ‘as it should be’ feels, I don’t like it!”

Compassion shaped Katohna’s expression as she brought their foreheads together to share air. The familiar scent of her High Nessa soothed Vivian, but this was not the scent she wanted to bathe in, drench herself with, drown in.

Realization raced like tingles up her spine.

I am being Called to Mate!

Katohna must have seen it in her face, because she smiled softly, waiting for Vivian to speak.

“This is the Call? I’m so irritated, I could scratch all the paint from the walls and chew the furniture! Nothing feels right.”

Katohna pressed her lips together hard, trying not to laugh. She nodded, her eyebrows high, ears quirking.

“You do seem out of sorts. Aggressiveness increases as your beast-nature instincts rise within you.”

Katohna looked at her curiously, her head tilted.

“Do you sense why?”

Vivian looked at Katohna, feeling unsure.

“I need my Mates, Katohna. I don’t know how much longer I can wait.”

“Do you want to wait?”

Do I? No. No more waiting! I need to be with my guys!

Vivian looked up at Katohna, completely sure.
